Professor Frank Griffin

Professor Frank Griffin has dedicated his life’s work to advancing the detection and eradication of disease in animals. He is the founding director of Disease Research Limited (DRL), part of Otago Innovation Ltd, which has been carrying out research on mycobacterial diseases in domestic animals and wildlife for over 35 years. Previously the Head of the University of Otago’s Microbiology & Immunology Department (until 2012), Professor Griffin now directs the University’s ‘Ag@Otago’ research theme; a new initiative drawing on the strengths in plant and animal production, genetics, food and health, and sustainability at the University. His important and impactful work in the management and eradication of disease in ruminants and wildlife species in New Zealand and abroad has earned him wide respect within scientific and farming communities, for which he has been officially recognised.
